Jumpstart is a short, bracing workshop for teams, organizations or individuals, looking for better ideas or strategies for change. Media, and the democracy it defends, face challenges of historic proportions: declining revenues, increased competition, ‘alternative facts,’ and a need to diversify and decolonize to create more equitable coverage. But how do you make a shift when the hierarchical structure of most media organizations works against change? How can you cultivate a supportive, risk-taking culture that accepts some inevitable failures on the way to greatness? Whether you need new ideas for media products, new revenue streams or a shift in culture, we can get you started on that journey.

About

Cheryl Dahle has a talent for unleashing the greatness of others. She’s spent more than 15 years working with disparate groups of disgruntled dreamers – social entrepreneurs, scientists, nonprofit leaders, journalists, fishermen, farmers, and business folk – to help them create the change they wish to see in the world.

Her methods evolved from years of working in complex systems to design and launch collaborative solutions. That work has included sending anthropologists into the global seafood supply chain to understand how sustainability was stuck, helping journalists devise new revenue strategies, enabling generative conversations between sworn enemies in fisheries, and uncovering ways to engage women on climate change policy.

The common thread in her disparate experiences is an ability to see system patterns, and the skill to help individuals and groups navigate to their greatest contribution to change.

Results of Dahle’s work include:

  • Recruiting, selecting and mentoring a diverse cohort of 20 climate change journalists who produced 70+ solutions stories in a year.

  • Designing and facilitating innovation workshops for media leaders that have led to multiple category-breaking new revenue ideas.

  • Ensuring that 2 billion + customers annually are served sustainable seafood in restaurants

  • Picking and mentoring a social entrepreneur who went from one oyster farm to spawning 10,000 farms of oyster and kelp, via a scalable training program

  • Co-developing sustainable seafood training used by 15,000+ chefs at Marriott International

  • Setting the conditions for the 2016 Seafood Import Monitoring Program requirements

  • Driving up the demand for “storied fish,” and therefore, traceability, data, and the chance to reward sustainable fishing
